Nuki Nuki – Across 118th Street

Summary:

A performance by Nengudi held in 1982 that features Nengudi’s construction with Venetian blinds and nylons.  Of this installation, the artist has said: “This piece was fragile- held together by a hope and a prayer — much like existence in Harlem in the 1970s and 1980s. I sweated every night behind this piece. It was structured so that if anyone touched it, it would fall apart. No one did — and it stayed in tact.”
