Summary:
Started in 1999, this performance project will continue until 100 pairs of shoes are sent out all over the world. Recipients of the shoes are invited to walk or dance a mile and then to report back on the experience. Before sending them off, Nengudi sometimes takes the shoes out for a stroll herself.
Besides being a meditational exercise on problems inherent to walking in another’s shoes, Nengudi sees the project as embodying the spirit of collaboration and creative cross pollination.
