Get-Up

Summary:

For the event “Segues: A Night of Performances,” held at the Paper Mill in Los Angeles, California,  Senga Nengudi performed a piece entitled “Get-Up.”  The sculptors Houston Conwill and Frank Parker created sculptural costumes with materials Nengudi provided. These costumes were worn by dancers Maren Hassinger and Yolanda Vidado who improvised movements inspired by what they were wearing.

Senga Nengudi writes, “‘Get-Up’ was a performances for which I had sculptors create sculptural costumes with materials I provided on dancers who then improvised movement stimulated by their costumes and props.”

This night of performances, held December 1, 1980, was sponsored by the Los Angeles Printmaking Society.
